On 20 February 1905, John and Annie celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and the photo above was published in The Queenslander 18 March 1905.

Johann Niclas (Borchers) Borchert (23) and Antije Beata Muller (25) were married on 20 February 1855 at the Lutheran Church, Burg, Dithmarshan, Prussia.

John (39) and Annie (35) emigrated to Australia in 1865 aboard the ship La Rochelle with their children Claus (10), John (8), Cecilia (7) and Anna (4).

ship La Rochelle

[It seems Coralie (a twin to Cecilia) died before 1865 as she is not on the La Rochelle list.] La Rochelle left Hamburg on 5th August and arrived Brisbane on 19th December 1865.

Their youngest daughter Catharina was born in 1867 in Queensland and sadly their youngest child died 6 April 1870, aged 1 day.

In 1869, John applied for and was granted 40 acres of pastoral land on the Meringandan run. John became naturalized on 19 March 1870 at Toowoomba and he signed his form "Johann Borgert".

In 1877 their daughter Cecilia Margaretha Borgert (1858-1883) married August Bleck.

In 1881 their son John Borgert (1857-1911) married Anna Augusta Wagland (1864-1903) at St Paul and Luke's Church in Toowoomba.

Sadly, Cecilia Bleck nee Borgert died in Brisbane on 2 July 1883, aged just 24.

In 1889 their daughter Anna Magdalen Borgert (1861-1943) married Henry John Lau (1871-1930).

Their youngest daughter Catherina Borgert (1867-1954) married Carl Wilhelm Dorries in 1898 however Catherina and Carl divorced in 1925.  Catherina took in her niece Lillie Cecilia Borgert (1896-1941) after Lillie's mother died in 1903.

Annie Borgert nee Muller died 23 April 1905 and John Borgert senior died 11 May 1911 and both were buried at Meringandan Cemetery.

John and Annie were survived by 15 of their 18 grandchildren:

Albert Johann Frederick Bleck (1879-1941)
John Mark (Borgert) Borghardt (1882-1951)
William (Wilhelm) Albert Borgert (1883-1967)

  2. Dear Janette, Anna was buried on 26 March 1903 at Bororen cemetery. (Bororen is north of Miriam Vale on the Bruce Highway). I don't know if she would have a headstone (probably not). I understand the cemetery records may be held by the Genealogical Society Gladstone District Inc https://gladstonegenealogy.wordpress.com/cemetery-records-for-gladstone-district/ Please let me know if you find out. My email is geniedonna @ yahoo.com.au Kind regards, Donna
